J.M.R. Electric Ltd. completed the Mechanical and Electrical scopes for the Region of Waterloo’s new Grand River Transit Bus Maintenance Facility, a 305,000 sq. ft. development built on 17 acres at 300 and 350 Northfield Drive. Designed to expand transit storage and maintenance capacity, the facility accommodates up to 200 buses— including standard, articulated, and Mobility Plus vehicles — supporting the Region’s long-term transit ridership goals outlined in the Regional Transportation Master Plan and the GRT Business Plan.
The project targets LEED® Silver Certification and incorporates a range of sustainable design strategies. JMR’s mechanical and electrical scopes included the installation of energy-efficient HVAC systems, high-performance plumbing and hydronic systems, power distribution, lighting, controls, and other energy-conserving equipment. The facility design ensures reduced environmental impact through waste reduction, material sorting, and continuous monitoring during construction.
This project demonstrates JMR’s ability to deliver large-scale, sustainable, and high-performing mechanical and electrical solutions for major municipal transit infrastructure.
