J.M.R. Electric Ltd. (JMR) completed the mechanical and electrical scope for the new 159,252 sq.ft Gilmore Lodge Long Term Care Facility and Seniors’ Wellness Centre in Fort Erie, Ontario.
The new three-storey, non-combustible structure includes 160 long-term care beds and a Wellness Centre designed to provide a welcoming, resident-focused home for seniors, families, and the community. The home features small, household-style groupings of 16 residents, cohesive residential areas, and inviting common spaces including a library, chapel, café/store, and accessible outdoor courtyards.
Demonstrating design and sustainability leadership, the Niagara Region is pursuing WELL Building Standard certification at the Silver level, positioning Gilmore Lodge to become the first WELL Certified long-term care home in Canada. The WELL framework emphasizes a holistic approach to health and wellness through seven key concepts—air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort, and mind—enhancing the environment for residents, staff, and visitors alike.
Once complete, the new Gilmore Lodge and Seniors’ Wellness Centre will serve as a model of modern, compassionate long-term care—combining innovation, sustainability, and a people-centered design that promotes dignity, comfort, and community connection.
