Skyway Community Centre

A 55,000 sq. ft. near-carbon-neutral community centre with an arena, track, and advanced mechanical and electrical systems enabling fully gas-free operation.

Project Description

J.M.R. Electric Ltd. completed the Mechanical and Electrical scopes for the new Skyway Community Centre, a 55,000 sq. ft. near-carbon-neutral facility featuring an arena, programming spaces, and an indoor track. The building incorporates advanced green building features designed to minimize energy consumption and meet specialized thermal requirements.

The mechanical systems include a geothermal system, active heat recovery ventilators, air-cooled condensing units, VRF water source heat pumps, W2W heat pumps, dehumidification units, and reheat coils, allowing the facility to operate without natural gas. The electrical scope included the installation of a 600V transformer, lighting controls and fixtures, and lighting for the new baseball field, providing energy-efficient and reliable power throughout the facility.

This project highlights JMR’s expertise in delivering high-performance mechanical and electrical systems for sustainable, multi-purpose community facilities.

Electrical Scope

  • Installation of a 600V transformer and distribution infrastructure.
  • Lighting fixtures and lighting controls throughout the facility.
  • Exterior sports field lighting for the new baseball field.
  • Energy-efficient electrical systems supporting near-carbon-neutral operations.

Mechanical Scope

  • Installation of geothermal system for sustainable heating and cooling.
  • Active heat recovery ventilators to maximize energy efficiency.
  • Air-cooled condensing units supporting cooling requirements.
  • VRF water source heat pumps and water-to-water (W2W) heat pumps.
  • Dehumidification units and reheat coils for arena and indoor air control.
  • Mechanical design enabling total operation without natural gas.
